Tashlich is a ritual that is often performed on Rosh Hashanah, focused on repentance and setting intentions for the upcoming new year. This ritual is not recited in a synagogue or more typical prayer space, but rather by a body of water.  Some people have the practice of throwing pieces of bread into the water during this ritual.  Others have the custom to throw leaves or flower petals that will disintegrate in the water without affecting wildlife. This is symbolic of throwing away one’s mistakes or releasing places where we may have missed the mark.

Tashlich presents a beautiful opportunity to connect with the fertility journey and to use some of the wisdom and soulfulness embedded in Tashlich to offer opportunities for healing.  Fertility journeys are often stress-laden, and do not often present moments for deep reflection and peace.  Tashlich presents this moment, and the rituals in this booklet are designed to take advantage of this opportunity and create a space for introspection and healing.
